What is the point of a Dyslexia Assessment?

Some people are understandably concerned about giving young people a label. Others feel that it does not make any difference. For some there are obvious reasons for having an assessment like a university student wanting to apply for DSA.

Recently I had feedback from a parent following an assessment. Her child had told her that "Debby made me feel like my brain is ok for me". We know that specific learning difficulties like Dyslexia often go hand in hand with self-esteem issues. For me,

making a young person feel better about themselves is reason enough to assess.
