These counters are double sided and have been placed in a ten frame made from egg boxes. Start by counting them and agreeing that there are 10 in total. Then turn over one of the counters you may now have 9 counters + 1 yellow counter but you must still have 10 in total. Therefore, 9 and 1 equals 10, and so on. Giving learners with maths difficulties lots of opportunities to investigate concepts with concrete tools can make a huge difference.
